So... the infamous new year, new me™ bullshit everyone's been talking about for the past few days. And where do I begin?
Last year was great, for the most part. And considerably more bearable, y'know... financial, health, and mental-wise. Thank God. For real, thank God for everything. Selaku self-confessed non-devout Muslim, aku percaya Tuhan masih lagi anugerahkan hidup yang selesa, kesihatan yang baik, rezeki yang tak putus-putus, walaupun dalam kebanyakan waktu, I'm just an ungrateful moron.
I'm heading into 2018 with one or two things in mind. First things first, to make more money. And to take a good care of my family. Planning is important but only goes so far. And when things don't go accordingly, aku sendiri yang akan sakit kepala kelak. Jadi untuk mengelakkan hal-hal leceh begini terjadi, I'm going to stick to what I do best and to never allow anything to sidetrack my priorities.
You know what my biggest mistake was? I raised the bar too high and put too much unnecessary pressure on myself. One minute I'm trying to do this and the next do that. Attempted to pull this off, pull that off etc. Like an idiot. I kinda figured it all out though. Being hard on myself isn't going to work. Ahh, what the hell. People come and go. Money comes and go. The trick to staying sane is to always stay put no matter what. To hold my ground even when it's shaky as fuck.
Life is all about trying to figure things out and set myself on the path I thought would suit me best. I've made my fair share of mistakes in the past, and yeah sure, bound to make more in the near future. But that shouldn't stop me from trying to be a better person.
And for some strange reason, I'm starting to believe I'm ready to build a small family unit of my own. I strongly oppose the idea of marriage before, so I'm not sure what got into my head recently. Or maybe it's just a one-time thing, I don't know.
Uhm... never mind that.
Anyway, here's my resolution from two years ago.
1. I bought a new pair of walking boots last week instead. Failed terribly.
2. I'm able to save up a whole lot more now in a year. Thank God.
3. I'm going on a trip to Phuket (again) in less than a month. Again, thank God.
4. More or less the same for the past two years. Only I have less working hours now.
5. Failed terribly.
6. Even worse now. I don't get attached at all. That's a new problem.
7. I think I'm doing alright.
8. Change of plans.
9. I write less. I read less. And I don't buy books anymore.
Aku berharap tahun ini lebih baik daripada tahun-tahun sebelumnya. That's all I'm asking for. Semoga segala-galanya baik belaka. Amen.
